Christmas Day of 2005... Natalie Wakefield John's wife gifted him with a $50 Mr. Beer homebrew kit. Â At the time, John had obtained his Masters degree in accounting and taken the occasional culinary class. Â What started off as a hobby quickly grew into a lifestyle the lifestyle of a brew master.
It wasn't luck that got John where he is today it was trial and error. Â He had to earn the respect of other brew masters, which in turn, landed him an internship at Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, FL.
Since, John has become a staple in the craft beer community. Â He has won multiple home brew competitions and has gained world-wide recognition. Â According to ratebeer.com, his Dragon Fruit/ Passion Fruit Berliner Weisse is currently ranked number eight among the top 10 beers of the world.
John took this respect and recognition and utilized it as a platform to push off from. Â He is one of the first brew masters to utilize a crowd-funded campaign CrowdBrewed in order to raise $55,000 to open his own brewery. Â To his surprise, his goal was reached within 30 hours of the campaign going live.
After much hard work, dedication and perseverance, J Wakefield Brewing finally opened its doors in January 2015. With almost a decade of home brewing experience and a stint at Cigar City Brewing, brewmaster Johnathan Wakefield is always aiming to make quality beers that don't always fit the norm; such as DFPF and Miami Madness.
Today, J Wakefield Brewing resides in Wynwood Miami one of the most eclectic and art driven districts. The brewery boasts wall-length murals of Star Wars characters, along with comic book lithographs. Come in to J Wakefield Brewing today and try John's favorite beer, La Nada (The Nothing).
