Laughing Sun Brewing Company was started in 2012 by owners Mike Frohlich and Todd Sattler. Our partnership was born out of a monthly poker game and a conversation in the dark parking lot outside the Corral Bar during a break from the live music inside. After a long search for the right location, we signed a lease in May, 2012 for space in the historic Laskin Building in downtown Bismarck, North Dakota. Over the next six months, with the help of family (in particular Mike's Dad, Dan Frohlich), friends, and the community, we built the brewhouse and pub literally from the ground up.
With all of the construction, commission meetings and licensing finally behind us, we were ready to do what we've wanted to do for a long time: make the best beer possible at a place where everyone can enjoy it. Mike is an experienced professional brewer who learned his craft at the Rattlesnake Creek Brewery & Grill in Dickinson, North Dakota during the 1990s. His award-winning beers are well-known in brewing circles in the area. Todd learned to make beer from his dad, Dale, in the 1980s. He has homebrewed ever since and has a deep appreciation and knowledge of the craft.
But the ability and desire to make great beer means little to us without people to share it. Our mission with the pub is to have a place where the local community can feel welcome and involved. Our walls feature the work of local artists. Our stage is open to local musicians, poets, writers, and thinkers with original compositions and ideas. We know that involvement is inevitable with the kind of interaction that good art demands.  We want a place for this. And so we invite you to come to downtown Bismarck, visit us, and see what can happen.
